| Death/Doom Started playing heavy death/doom as one of the great death/doom bands from the Peaceville label in the early 90s. They were often mentioned alongside Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. Early Anathema was characterized by the charismatic vocals of Darren White and the unique guitar playing of the Cavanagh brothers. After Darren left, they slowly changed into a dark alternative band, slowly losing all elements of what made them Anathema. Their later work shows them aping the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Mogwi, to name a few. |

| Vocalist Darren White left after 'Pentecost III' and formed The Blood Divine. After that he joined Dead Men Dream, which he left to create his own band: Serotonal. Stopped producing doom metal after 'The Silent Enigma' - The vocals were taken over by Vincent Cavanagh. The band stopped playing heavy metal after Eternity. Bassist and important songwriter Duncan Patterson left after 'Alternative 4' and formed a band called Antimatter (later joined by Daniel Cavanagh). Most older albums have been re-released by Peaceville. Violinist/Keyboard player Martin from My Dying Bride, Cradle of Filth and Cryptal Darkness did some session work for Anathema after he departed from My Dying Bride. Danny Cavanagh also played in LID a band that also featured Eric Wagner of Trouble fame. |
