This extreme death doom album is really convincing, only strating from song 2.

Is it only my ears, or song one is awfully mixed? - it gives me the headache...

I know Treurwilg, I have their 2016 album... yes, the mix is awful, a highly compressed one... shame.

The latest Treurwilg is good indeed, I also wondered why the first track is so awfully sounding, but thankfully the rest is very nice.

I do not like the blackish vocals at all, but I absolutely do love the guitar leads that sound a lot like the ones found in Dooom!

The snares on the last track are also occupying too much space. I think that's a sound I really can't stand.

But here's something that sounds much more like Dooom imo:

I keep listening to Draconian's latest. To me, it's their best. Best female performance too, soft and like hushed that merges excellently with the elegant doom architecture.

It's a tad more commercial and less extreme, but I'm not complaining... :D

I above all think it's more sobre, what I like more. I don't know that band too well, because I've always been quickly turned away by their bombastic lyrical leanings, their emphatic effects, and a kind of 'operatic' female voice. All I can't stand.

And as I age, I come to appreciate less dynamics in my music, calm and round stuff. :oldfart:

In the same line, I'm listening now to PL's Obsidian...

Just wait until you get to my age... :p I don't do extreme stuff anymore... it just doesn't appeal to me. And yes, Obsidian is very good too. In fact, I was very surprised by it.

I had long given up on Draconian, despite the introduction of the majestic vocals of Heike, but your recent comments made me revisit it, and it's actually the only album of theirs I can listen from start to finish. The "heavy" parts with rough vocals and fast guitars are still annoying and totally plastic, but the album does not rely so much on them as usual. So it's almost ok=)

I still with they would make more songs in the vein of Death, Come Near me, sadly the only band that came close to this sound was Autumnia in the past...

This latest album of Draconian reminds me of Hallatar. Maybe something you'd like too, Klamerin?

I'm not klamerin :p but maybe Hallatar are a tad too heavy and the vocals are really harsh. Of course, Trees of Eternity are the got-to-band when you need melancholy and sadness without being too heavy... :rainy:

Post Re: To what listenest thou?

I love the guitars in Hallatar but cannot stomach the vocals, the grunts are simply not good, while the rough, blackish vocals are totally off-putting for me, striving to be torturous but end up comical. I'm usually not that picky on the vocal delivery, especially when there are grunts and it is really a pity that the vocals on this album ruin the experience for me as I really like the idea behind the band...

Here're pretty much all death doom features à la Draconian I don't like:

Gogo Melone's voice doesn't really suit that track.

I think this is pretty good... some doomy, ritual, shamanic, a bit post a bit progressive metal from Poland... not sure if my description is correct, but there you go... :D

Intaglio, the new extract. Although it's a shortened track, I'mnot convinced at all the whole of it will be much more captivating.

Later it was UN/ Sentiment
