Vacuous Gaze

Reflection (Demo) 2004 None
Vacuous Gaze is the brainchild of Tom Orgad from Israel. It's a solo project that brings a form dronish instrumental music with guitar as the main instrument. Sometimes very minimal electronics or rhytms are blended in.

The first of the two lengthy tracks consists mainly of heavy dissonant guitar riffs slowly following one another. Lead guitars fade in sporadically, just as dissonant as the underlying tones. Towards the end of the track a cacaphonous climax is built up. The second track is more of a play between different (again dissonant) guitar leads competing against eachother for attention. Here there are some minimal rhythms surfacing, but it all remains very dronish and ambient.

It's hard to speak in terms of good or bad with this kind of music. One is either able to listen to extremely long (random?) chord progressions or one is not. I think it is safe to say that this isn't really doom metal at all, although it might certainly appeal to those who are into the regions of drone/doom and enjoy a long bit of chaotic, relatively unaccessible music. For the rest of us, don't bother.
