Reading the small information paper labels send with promo's to help reviewers (and you wondered why most reviews in different magazines sound the same, huh?), I noticed that Sunnshine is compared to bands like Corrosion of Conformity, (early) Soundgarden, Rollings Band and Tool. Well, I can get into that. The sludgy thick rock & roll does indeed at times remind me of such acts. But Sunnshine strikes me as much more honest and back to basics. These guys simply just go, creating some groovy, heavy, intense, yet down to earth rock. As such I am pretty sure most stoner rockers will really enjoy this album, but straight doom fans should stay away from it. Especially the stomping grooves and sludgy rhythms will cause most stoner rockers to shiver in sheer delight, while most doomsters will shiver in sheer terror. Personally, I enjoy the slower and heavier songs, like 'Untrainedeye', more but all in all, the quality level is very consistent on this release. |
