This is the second demo from this UK based band. Since that time, they have released another demo, and they changed their name to Ghast. They play blackish doom metal with a variety of influences that is characterized by a psychotic and nihilistic atmosphere. The first track of this demo, ‘Grim’, starts with a long ambient intro that can fool anyone for what comes next. The track evolves to an epic song, but it sounds like the band was a little confused about what they wanted to do. The second track, ‘Abstract Death’, is by far the best on the demo; it keeps a high level of quality and it brings a touch of what made Norway famous among metal fans. If this was the only track of the demo, I would give them a perfect 10, if in D-M.com we were using a point system. The last song it's more “black” than doom and not a very good one for my taste. Overall, a good effort that has its moments; but it needs some improvements in the composition and the production that it might offer an underground aura, but it buries the efforts of the band. Their web page can be found here: http://geocities.com/gravemantra/souldust.htm. I can only wish them good luck. |
