Our Survival Depends On Us does indeed sound a lot like Crowbar with their pounding sludge and really pissed off vocals. However these guys do have a style of their own and it's far too minimalistic for them to be rip-offs. One of the most notable similarities is the attitude. Just like Crowbar they manage to make it sound both painful and hateful at the same time. It truly is a bomb of negative emotions.
But Crowbar is not the only influence here. There is also hints of bands as diverse as Pelican and Black Lodge. So despite the minimalism in the music, they are sure to keep things interesting. Best described as simple complexity perhaps? At least they are diverse enough to stop the minimalism from repeating itself and cause boredom.
This can hardly be considered typical sludge/doom. Instead these guys keep tugging on the limits of the genre and create "the thing that should not be" amongst sludge. It's not loud. It doesn't have hardcore vokills. It not even that filthy. Yet they still play sludge/doom pure and real. I must admit I'm impressed every time a a band turns a genre on it's head and I'd say that it's actually worth to get this LP because of that alone. Very interesting stuff.
