The missing link between Goethes Erben and My Dying Bride? Perhaps I shouldn’t put it so extremely, but the fact is that Modern Funeral Art seem to be tapping as much from the gothic rock sound as well as the doom metal scene.
The solid, hypnotic guitar riffs and rhythmic bass lines will certainly appease many a fan of the heavier genres. However, singer Arnaud’s whining clean vocals will not be appreciated by everyone. The band seems to have developed a fine ear for songwriting and musical vision and this should be certainly applauded. This MCD will not rock the foundations of modern underground metal, but it deserves to be heard by those who like to draw their listening pleasure from both the (gothic) rock and the doom metal genres.
