The Lamp of Thoth

The Lamp of Thoth (Demo CD) 2006 None
It seems that the UK Doom Metal scene is expanding; old favorite bands are getting into action again (debut album by The River, new album by Warning, new material by Unsilence), and some good new followers have been noticed around the scene hailing from UK (Witchsorrow, Lamp Of Thoth).

I was quite excited to listen to Yorkshire's Lamp Of Thoth debut demo which includes 5 tracks (plus an intro) of pure Doom Metal inspired by Black Sabbath, Witchfinder General, Pagan Altar, Saint Vitus and Reverend Bizarre. I guess that my reference to the influences of the band makes you understand their style - 100%. It is not just their heavy as hell pure Doom Metal, it is also their general artistic approach - lyrics, artwork etc., that made this band build quite slowly to a cult status.

The best song in here for sure is 'Pagan Daze', a sinister Doom Metal anthem. In the title track, ' The Lamp of Thoth', the band sounds a little bit faster and a little NWOBHM inspired, and the same goes for 'The Blood On Satan's Claw'. Things become slower and even heavier in the 'Wings Of Doom' song, inspired a little bit by the mighty Reverend Bizarre, and the demo closes with a wilder track entitled 'Skull Fuel'.

The good news says that the band is already preparing a 7" single release with a full length to follow by The Miskatonic Foundation. We cannot wait.
