Eclipse

Extracts from The Book of Lost One (CDemo) 1999 No Label
I see you wondering: "What the hell? A CDemo?" Yes, indeed. This beginning Belgian band [Editor Note: they have now broken up] consists of 6 people, including male and female vocals. They released this very decent CDemo as a first trial to put their efforts on a CD.

Eclipse plays a kind of atmospheric, melodic doom-metal that lies between the majestic though melancholic searching of In the Woods... ('Omnio' era) and Tristania. The songs differ from parts with heavy guitar riffing and great (!) grunts over atmospheric, doomy parts with clean singing to very progressive, experimental parts. Whispers, singing, grunting, screaming, we can hear the full load here. And all performed very well for what is considered an amateur recording.

Which brings me to the overall sound quality, which is pretty close to amazing for a low budget CDemo. Something I really like on CD's is a little extra, like an instrumental or experimental song. Eclipse puts a very atmospheric, very experimental song, called 'Pays des Rêves' on their CDemo. Daring, but exciting and close to brilliant.
