Crowbar

Broken Glass (CD) 1996 Pavement Music
Crowbar is one of those bands which many people find to be on the other side of the doom border. This CD is one which should convince a lot, if not all of them. At least those who consider Eyehategod to be doom would most likely think the same of this CD.

But! Crowbar doesn't sound like Eyehategod. They have a very unique sound that only a few bands have continued. But they still share many aspects with other sludge/doom bands, like the "scream the lungs out" vocals and heavy riffage, for example. On the other hand they set themselves apart from the other bands by making grooving music, but without any stoner elements.

Crowbar hasn't amounted the fame that Grief and Eyehategod have, but they sure have made a name for themselves despite this. The fact that they display an utterly pissed off attitude in their music as well as being one of the first on the scene would probably be a main reason behind this… Other than outstanding quality music of course.

Comparing other bands to Crowbar seems to me to be quite silly; they are one of the originals and other bands should be compared to them, not the other way around. This band is one that all sludge fans should be familiar with.
