Continuing in the tradition of the greats of the Italian underground (MonumentuM, Ras Algethi, Cultus Sanguine…) Consummatum Est plays dark metal in the unmistakable Italian style: guitars low in the mix, heavy on the funereal keyboards and a huge portion of Italian pathos in the compositions.
This one-man project manages to create some interesting moody atmospheres with the two lengthy compositions on this promo. The two tracks build up slowly through various sessions that are interlinked through some recurring themes based on synth strings/organ and Shape of Despair-type searing female vocals. The solemn atmosphere evokes images of a “funeral procession”, and the man behind this project seems to know this as he has even recorded an album using this tag as its title.
One could argue that Consummatum Est’s music lacks dynamics and true innovative vision. However, this is compensated by its ability to create a majestic, mournful atmosphere and immerse the listener in the sorrowful emotions invoked by the loss of a loved one.
