Yet another promising doom-metal band from London, Centurions Ghost managed to impress me straight away with this powerful three-song demo. Without any pretensions, those guys unleash their doomy heavy metal (or heavy doom metal?) on us with one simple command: "take it or leave it". Their influences range from Celtic Frost to and blend nicely into an irresistible cocktail of groove, doom and genuine metal riffs. In an age where many doom bands seek to experiment and allow more and more `external` influences like industrial and ambient in their sound, Centurions Ghost choose to stay loyal to their metal roots, to such an extend that many would draw the conclusion that they are rather a heavy metal band with doom influences. Not so myself however, as I believe that those guys have enough darkness and gloom in their sound to be considered a doom band. They are comparable to later day Cathedral, as anyone who has listened to the grooving` opener `Ancient rites` would confirm. The track speeds by like a steam train and just when the listener is ready to be subjected to an endless groovefest, the band slows down dramatically for the gloomy doom epic `misery serenade`, definitely my favourite track on this demo. As expected, the band speeds up again on the last track with its excellent lead guitar and Cathedralesque riffs. Are you not afraid of a good, healthy version of old-fashioned doom-metal with the emphasis on METAL? Do you find yourself regularly subjected to the irresistible power of old-school groove?
