This album is not an easy one to review. It contains a lot of very different moods and genres. At times, it is very calm and atmospheric, while a few seconds later, you find yourself banging your head until it hurts. References would be: Katatonia, Evereve, Saturnus and other bands in that particular genre. No wonder, if you consider that Kim Larsen (ex-Saturnus) plays in this band. Great guitar melodies, varying from heavy to semi-acoustic, with a touch of keyboards to finish the whole off. The vocals are as varying too. We hear whispers, spoken voice and screams. Some faster parts, with fast guitar melodies accompanied by a screaming voice that remind me a bit of the Swedish melodic death-metal scene. The artwork really fits the music: dark, mysterious, lethal. They label themselves as "Nordic Night Metal" and that seems to be a good description to me. Only problem I have with it is that some parts are hardly readable (dark text on dark print...). But this is a must buy for everyone into Saturnus or October Tide. |
