Blackrock
The Boston Sherwood tapes (Split CD) 2001 Underdogma
Under the presumption that doom-metal.com has an intelligent audience, I don't think I need to mention this is a split between the US band Roadsaw and the UK band Blackrock. But I guess I just did anyway (don't you just hate that?). Anyhow, I must admit I am not really familiar with both these bands, and I also must admit that both of them don't really play doom-metal. Instead both bands play heavy and generally slow (read stoner) rock. So all you stonies pay attention here! Roadsaw is represented with 2 songs and, despite the claims from their label, don't really sound that heavy to my ears, focusing more on melody instead. I can't count the number of times I found myself tapping or humming along to the track 'Where is my mind?', which also means it's my favorite of this album. The fact that their songs move on a comfortably slow tempo most of the time, makes this band my favorite of the two. The drumming can sometimes get to me a bit, but all in all this bands offers us solid as a rock ..eeer... rock! Blackrock is also represented by 2 songs and they are definitely the more groovy of the two. The speed goes up considerably and the local hippies have a tendency to go into frenzy when this is played too close to them (so watch it there!). The sound quality also seems less, giving it a more "dirty" feel. Yet for some reason I also feel like labeling them "lounge rock", this mainly due to the laid back atmosphere on both their tracks. In all fairness this is not my cup of tea, but I am sure most stoner fans will love this as it is well-preformed music.	Roadsaw 1. Busted Monk 2. Where Is My Mind Blackrock: 3. Loserfuel 4.
