| Outlaw Order - Dragging Down the Enforcer (2008) |
With four-fifths of EyeHateGod's lineup among its ranks, Outlaw Order's musical pedigree is easily defined. With thick downtuned riffs, thunderous drums and singer Mike William's venomous anger poured into every poetic scream, 'Dragging Down The Enforcer' is overflowing with crusty, New Orleans swamp swagger.
'Dragging Down The Enforcer' is the band's full length debut following the 7" EP 'Legalize Crime' which was released in 2003 on Southern Lord. The album begins with an archival sample of an anonymous voice from the '60's radical underground stating "a declaration of a state of war" and then proceeds to slowly obliterate the senses with its punk infused, sludge/doom. After years of incarceration and drug problems, Mike Williams sounds vicious and focused, spewing his Nola street poetry like a half drunken prophet of doom. This is his best performance in years.
For fans still waiting for a full EyeHateGod reunion or a follow up to 2005's 'Preaching The "End-Time" Message', 'Dragging Down The Enforcer' is a fine substitute. Although the album stands up well on its own, Outlaw Order wears its Nola sludgecore lineage on its well worn sleeve. |

... Crowbar doesn't sound like Eyehategod. They have a very unique sound that only a few bands have continued. But they still share many aspects with other sludge/doom bands, like the "scream the lungs out" vocals and heavy riffage, for example. On the other hand they set themselves apart from the other bands by making grooving music, but without any stoner elements. ...
