|I could sum up the sound of this demo by highlighting the ingredients of which it consists and those of which it doesn't: from one side we've got melancholic guitar lines, lots of weeping keyboard strings and emotional clean female as well as male vocals; from the other, there is a general absence of brutality on this demo, perhaps even more highlighted by the sparse, occasional grunts which are mixed in the background. There are no blastbeats or dramatic crescendo's; it seems that no risks have been taken here.|
While in 95% of the times these would be the ingredients of a boring gothic/pseudo doom album, this band from Lille, France manages to pull it off in a more than satisfying way. I can not put the finger on what exactly lifts them above mediocrity, but the most important thing is that this demo remains enjoyable throughout its 32 minutes and 4 lengthy songs. The alternations between the two main vocalists are quite smooth and natural, while the goth touch on the keys is never overdone, as it is nicely complimented by tasteful guitar work. The generally melancholic atmosphere reminded me a lot of Ningizzia, which is not surprising since it seems that both bands share a member.
While I would suggest to this young band to add more variety in their compositions when they release a full album - as their continuously smooth and tranquil wave/gothic soundscapes might be eventually reduced to background music if the length exceeds the 40 minutes - I think they are doing just fine on this demo.
