Lake Of Depression : Lake Of Depression

Lake of Depression is a project by Lebzul and Alejandro of Spirit of the Deep Waters from Panama. They play a mixture of doom/death and dark ambient sounds. Both the intro and the outro are dark electronic soundscapes, while the two middle tracks showcase some harsh, but melodic doom/death with calmer pieces.

These two tracks are based on rolling drum machine beats, fuzzy distorted riffs and very deep growls. This is mixed with more dark electronics, but also acoustic guitar, and clean and spoken pieces, which makes the whole quite varied. If I were to draw a parallel, it might be best to call to mind what Umbra Nihil and Panthe´st sounds like in their demo days. The comparison doesn't go that far, though, as these three bands are still pretty far apart.

This demo has some weaker points, which lie mainly in the area of production and instrument sound. Besides that, although it sounds relatively original, the demo is also missing a bit of musical coherence. As it is, it sounds a bit unfocused. Nevertheless, if Lebzul & co. can get a full band together and manages to improve the sound a bit, things may very well be going somewhere. A promising demo.
