Grey Skies Fallen : The Fate of Angels

Every once and a while, some relatively unknown artist surprises you. Formerly known as Eve of Mourning, US doom outfit Grey Skies Fallen have made a beautiful debut which has most certainly surprised me. These guys have managed to create a superb atmosphere which you can find on My Dying Bride or Anathema albums.

The vocals vary from death growls to mournful clear singing, which is perhaps reminiscent of Garm's vocals [note by editor: known from Arcturus and Ulver]. The guitars are well played while the keyboards add excellently to the atmosphere.

Songs like 'Drawn To The Earth' and 'Athena' are no short of masterpieces. Fans of doom-death will most certainly enjoy the angry opener 'The Purest Form'. This impresive debut deserves your full attention. Recommended for both doom-metal fans and open-minded music lovers.
