|Corrupted seems to enjoy making splits with grind/death metal bands, but Phobia has to be their best choice yet. The two bands both have a sound that make them fit very well together, even though they end up on the opposite end of the speed scale. Despite the fact that the tracks from both bands are quite typical for their genre, this is an interesting listening. You could almost call this a 7" education in grind and sludge/doom.|
The length of the tracks is one of the major differences between the bands. While Corrupted's only track, 'Nieve Segundo' (translated: "second snow"), lasts six minutes, Phobia's four tracks only lasts a total of five and a half minutes, where the shortest of the tracks only last 30 seconds. Now that is quite a difference.
Phobia creates a 50/50 mixture of death metal and grindcore. This means that both elements can clearly be heard even if the drummer abuses the drums with what I'm sure must be more than ten hits per second. Also whereas many grind bands only manage to end up creating a chaos of banging noises, these guys manage to create a really agressive sound from it all. I'm not sure which kind of phobia is meant to make you feel like this, but it sure is nothing I want to be going through. Corrupted's track has a very familiar sound for those who have heard their early works. Not particularly heavy on the bass, but focuses instead on a very fuzzy and noisy sound. Nothing we haven't heard before, but on the other hand it's definitely not their worst production either.
Allthough I still prefer their longer tracks, this is one of the most recommendable 7" that Corrupted has appeared on.
