Avrigus : The Secret Kingdom

Released through the Hammerheart sublabel Well of Urd we finally see the first Avrigus full length released on CD! For a long time the band had to make due with releasing it on mp3 because no label was interested.

So what does this album bring us? Well it brings us high quality atmospheric doom-metal with an epic feel to it. Like most atmospheric doom-metal heaviness gets sacrificed to give a more melancholic and sad feel to the music. What Avrigus however also add it an epic, warrior like feel to the music. With some songs one could almost think they are a doom-metal version of Bal Sagoth, but without ever sounding cheesy!

At other times however the music mainly focuses on melancholy and sadness. While some songs bring both together to create majestically wonderful songs like 'Dark Angels Ascension' and 'Qliphoth'. However despite this epicfeel one can still at times simply float away on the tranquil music.

Both 'Desolate' and 'Flesh' from the previous Mcd 'The Final Wish' are also featured on this album. One could say that, this is a cheap way to fill an album but seeing how hard it is to actually get 'The Final Wish' I guess this is not a big issue here.
