|The not very professional looking CD-R I received from this young doom band, fortunately contained a demo made by serious musicians, and is blessed with a good production. Fortunately, because it's the music that counts here, anyway. |
These guys display their talent on this demo with six lengthy tracks, playing solid atmospheric doom death in the tradition of My Dying Bride and Anathema. However, the word 'tradition' is perhaps an understatement. Some parts of the songs remind strongly of MDB.'s 'Turn Loose the Swans'. While I'd swear that some other parts came from Anathema's 'Eternity', if I didn't know it was actually this Autumnal.
Especially the vocalist has an incredible talent at sounding exactly like Aaron Stainthorpe when he grunts and also when he's doing the low clean vocals (which unfortunately are a bit out of key at times) and the spoken parts. However, some times, when he screams, he sounds exactly like Vincent Cavanaugh ('Eternity' era). How does he do this? I don't know, I only know that this demo sounds like the two former arch enemies of Peaceville, joined their efforts making a new demo which reconciliates old My Dying Bride and the new Anathema we got to know since 'Eternity'.
The conclusion of this review could be that those guys have enough potential to create something brilliant in the future. However, to do this, they should use their creativity and talent to create something more unique, something which distinguishes them in the overcrowded atmospheric doom death scene.
