Antubel : Promo 2003

Antubel is a duo of young doomsters from Spain. Recorded in 2000, this demo has been a long time coming.

The sound is a mixture of old and new-school doom. The structure is built on guitar riffs containing plenty of fuzz, augmented by keys for dramatic atmosphere. Evidently, all the instruments are played by Allyn, with vox by Borja. The vocals (in English) are by turns clean, dramatic and weepy alternating with plenty of deathy grunts. The music is not without doomy charm, particularly the atmospherics and engaging chord progression of 'Wretched Spectre.'

Unfortunately, the sound quality is terrible and the playing is all too often sub par; in particular, the transitions between different portions of the songs are often clumsy. Antubel has some good doomy attitude going, but the playing and sound quality will have to improve to effectively bring the vision to reality. But this is a demo, after all, so things will undoubtedly improve with the next go 'round.
Here's hoping.
