Tort : Tort

Itís called Tort, and itís proven to give serious stomach aches and burns, so drink to your heartís content.

Drinks are on me! Tonightís cocktail night and here is the new sensation in Barcelona, Spain. Take a shaker, put in 1/3 Celtic Frost, íEmperorís Returní era, add another 1/3 Eyehategod and 1/3 Winter. Mix all of the aforementioned ingredients like a mad cow (or bull if you think this is sexist). Grate a few Autopsy rinds on top of it and serve hell-boiling-hot. Enjoy! Itís called Tort, and itís proven to give serious stomach aches and burns, so drink to your heartís content. Recycling the good ole recipes of the past, the Spanish band achieves a very pleasant mix between Old-School Sludge and raw Doom Death. The Celtic Frost/Hellhammer touch is only bonus for all you aficionados of the great Swiss sound.

At times the band will achieve groovy stillness (check out the two longest tracks) or bullfight your ass in the Autopsy-esque manner of fellow countrymen Freakhate. Itís up to you to decide how you want to be shitfaced when you start drinking in the music of Tort.

While not bound to revolutionize the genre (but what genre exactly is that Ö?), adding all these spicy and yummy ingredients to their music, Tort can NOT go wrong. Most Sludge acts never know when to stop and usually end up being stuck in our craw because of a certain lack of variety. But variety isnít a problem here: itís the main quality of this debut which features ex-members of Lords of Bukkake, Cuerno and other Spanish acts. Talking about Spanish, there are few incursions of local horror movie samples which are either ridiculous or terrifying. Or is it both?

Canít say itís a masterpiece, but it certainly has the ability to move you in a good way. So fans of all the above-listed bands should give them a listen (stuff is only limited to a thousand copies). Very, very promising indeed.
