Debris Inc. : Debris Inc.

Debris Inc.'s attempt to combine two vastly different genres isnít always crowned with success.

Debris Inc. was a project founded by two legendary figures of the American Doom metal scene, St Vitus guitarist Dave Chandler and Trouble bassist Ron Holzner. Along its career, the band featured a large number of contributing drummers that included former and current members of bands such as The Obsessed, Crowbar, Novembers Doom, Trouble, etc. Normally, a line up like this one would guarantee some classic traditional Sabbath sounding Doom Metal, but the reality is a little different as the band chose to play a weird mix of Punk Rock and Doom Metal. And by the term ĎPunkí I mean real Punk in the vein of The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Discharge and nothing like the soft wannabe-Punk sound that fills the air.

The album contains seventeen tracks that range from pure old school street Punk to Doom Metal, with the majority of the tracks being somewhere in- between. Tracks like 'Full Of Shit' and 'Youíre The Reason Iím Medicated' would have been well placed on any good Punk Rock album of the late '70s or early '80s. On the other hand, we find 'Old Man And His Bong' or 'Pain', two real Doom tracks that could easily fit in St Vitus discography. Beside the songss I mentioned, I also liked 'Nausea', a perfect crossover between both music styles and also the longest Punk song, clocking in at over six minutes: 'Junkbak'.

Their attempt to combine two vastly different genres isnít always crowned with success: sometimes they lean more towards the one or the other. I canít say it is the most important album ever, but at least it is honest and even if you doesnít suit your taste, there is enough talent involved not to bore you to death. If, beside Doom heaviness, you enjoy the straighter and more direct-in-your-face attitude of Motorhead or Venom, youíre going to like this one too.
