Weeping guitars, weeping vocals and an otherwise very melancholic atmosphere. The music is somewhat light, but still very emotional gothic/doom....

Ghost : Elizabeth

Ghost's music is heavily inspired by the retro proto-Doom sound.

More and more often my attention is drawn by bands that are inspired by this type of retro 70s' proto-doom sound, mixing it with an occult lyrical concept. Fortunately, most of those bands are really good and this ‘genre’ is starting to become one of my favourite.

If you want names go and check Jex Thoth, Blood Ceremony, The Devils Blood, etc. And yes, those names are a fitting starting point to introduce this new Swedish band. Unlike them however, The Ghost is also influenced by the dark side of the NWOBHM sound, while letting some Merciful Fate bits sneaking inside the atmosphere of their songs. All these elements mixed together sound like, well... The Ghost, spreading the word of evil in an musical way that simply makes you ask for more. Well I guess this is the point.Right?

Both songs 'Elizabeth' and 'Death Kneel' (from their demo) carry a deadly touch based on vintage sounding heavy guitars. The vocals lines are dark, but still attractive (like in their demo) and, to make it short, both songs rule.

So if you are into The Coven, Black Widow, Bedemon, Witchfinder General, Ritual (UK), Merciful Fate, early Cirith Ungol etc., go for GHOST!

Well, the fact that Iron Pegasus Records picked them up, releasing this 7'', means a lot. They would never offer a contract to the next photocopy band. These Swedish guys have something really special. I am sure that this band is going to share with us some really good music in the future and that we’re going to see their name getting bigger. They know what to do and how to do it, and as a matter of fact, they are already doing it... Stay tuned (yep their full-length has already been released on Rise Above)!
