Noothgrush : Wellington/Noothgrush Split

If you don't count the compilation then this is the swansong of Wellington, a band with not much of a reputation and who lasted only around five years. (From the ashes rose a thrash/grindcore band called Unruh, which also has now disbanded.)

Wellington plays a chunky and pounding style of very aggressive sludge/doom which focuses on good riffage rather than heavyness. But that does not in any way mean that they can't go extremely heavy from time to time. Sometimes the music goes a bit too up-tempo to be doom metal, but for the most of the time they stay on the same level of doomyness that Noothgrush does. The vocalist uses both growls and vokills, both of which sound incredibly harsh. Really a good choice for those who enjoy Corrupted or Eyehategod.

The other side of the split is dedicated to an equally aggressive band: Noothgrush. They play a slower and more pounding music than their split-mates, but surprisingly their track isn't that much heavier. Noothgrush has a reputation on them to make some of the grimmest sludge/doom ever, and they certainly don't fail here.

A double dose of hatred and filth where both bands truly deliver. You would expect that from Noothgrush, but it is a pleasant surprise to hear a band which can keep up with them. This is the ultimate goal of a split 7" with any decent sludge band on it. If you also count that the musical quality of the tracks are incredibly high, then you know that this is a release that is a must have for any decent fan of extreme sludge/doom.
