Valkyrie : Man Of Two Visions

Iímnot so old... Iímnot that young either! I have passed the age my father had when he got me though, but still, Iím a child of the eihgties and all the experiences of the emerging Hard Rock, of the loud stimulant-inspired psychedelic wave I could gather are only postponed, disembodied fantasised mental projections.

Cream, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Jethro tull are now phantoms of the past. Luckily enough, there are still bands that pay tribute to that artistically boiling era. Such as... well Valkyrie for example.

this version of 'Man Of Two Visions' is a re-release by Meteorcity of their 2008 album. Really, you know, all these tracks could have been old recordings made between 1967 (birth of Blue Cheer) and 1976 (when Punk will start to shake the tree). It could be a reissue, a thing of the past that bursts in your present days to tell you how great that time was!

So, Valkyrie would be a modern proto-Hard Rock band; the bluesy guitar lines, the galloping riffs and the dry and warm drumming, all that music rooted in Western folk that is bursting with enthusuiasm and energy. Breathless rhyhthms, soul-grasping melodies full of sunny groove and true sensitivity played with ease and talent. That is where , full of gratitude and pleasure, a criticism can however be addressed: it all sounds a bit clichť and light, a nostalgic hommage that fundamentally lacks personnality.
