Matsudo : No People, No Problems

Matsudo is a swedish doom/sludge trio with an unusual touch. Both the bassist and the drummer contribute with vocals at the same time. This means you'll hear both raspy, but clean, male vocals and semi-whispered vokills at the same time. A trait that gives an extra spaced out feeling to the psychadelicly tingued, thick and powerful riffage.

The band operates in a mid-paced fashion with pulsating rhythms ideal for headbanging. It reminds me of a mixture of bouncy doom/sludgers 3D House of Beef and psychadelic stoners like Albatros. As one can read from the demo title alone, there is also more than just some influence from oldschoolers such as Eyehategod. The fact that the band has backgrounds as diverse as punk rock and traditional heavy metal, means that you'll get both aggression and attitude as well. Despite all of this I think that the best description is probably that it's pumping filth, just like a sewage pump.

This is Matsudo's debut demo and it last no longer than a short 7". Still it shows a lot of promise, especially in the way that the music drags you into the negative groove. In other words, short, but still recommended for sludge fans to check out.
