World Funeral : Caledarium et Frigidarium

World Funeral returns with a second demo. I find it fit to begin describing it through the title, 'Caledarium et Frigidarium'. This is latin and a 'caledarium' is a roman sauna and a 'frigidarium' is the roman version of a cold bath, meant to be a relief when you're done with the sauna. With some imagination you could compare this to the musical style found here. While it's got some of the old "hot" traditional doom elements from the previous demo, they've now wet themselves quite well in a "cold" doom/death bath. All of this is very roman since the populus romanus are indeed very dead, and the music here does indeed still give me the horror movie connections that their first demo also gave.

'Caledarium et Frigidarium' has mainly two speeds. One slow, aiming for a surprisingly relaxed sound. The other is mid-paced with chugging, bouncy riffage and plenty of rhythm to bang your head to. Varying between those and between the two parts of the genre mixture, the band both draws on elements from the Black Sabbath style on one side and elements from the diSEMBOWELMENT-and-Winter one on the other. Neither of this does the music perfect justice though. It must also be pointed out that the music constantle tendens towards psychadelic rock, and, although this isn't very pronounced, it still infuses the music with a slightly lighter mood amongst the darkness.

While there's been some changes genre-wise on this demo, it still applies to the same fanbase as the previous demo. Thus I hesitate to repeat myself, instead I'd recommend the reader to also check out my review of their self-titled demo.
