The Wounded : Monument

Can I have your attention, fellow doomed-ones? Another good band has risen from The Netherlands. The Wounded is a relatively young band of which the music is best described as doomy goth-rock with a very emotional touch. Follow me in a journey through the deepest emotions and pure misanthropy...

This album deals with solitude and oblivion on one hand, but on the other hand it contains a lot of anger and frustration as well. The song 'Monument' is perhaps the best example to illustrate this outstanding album. It begins very serene with a lonely-sounding sample. When Marco's vocals kick in, it becomes clear that this is one of the most emotional songs ever written. Painful vocals, sad keyboards and a sole sounding guitarsound create a wall of bitterness, also known as... 'Monument'. Tear-driving...

As stated before, the album contains also a lot of hate and frustration. Take 'The Real' for example: rhythms like beating fists and lyrics that reflect madness. The anger is definitely felt... While listening to this album you'll wonder in what pain and in what state of mind its creators must have been during the recording process.

I must say that these aren't the only great songs on this amazing album. Other jewels would be 'Child', 'Black Star' and 'A Dance with the Insane'. If you're into doomy rock like Anathema and you can accept a touch of insanity, I'm sure you'll adore this. To me, this really is one of my favorite CDs of all time. It induces the same deep feelings every time I listen to it, as if I can relate to each emotion displayed on this album.

I would like to end this review with a phrase that says it all: "Nothing peaceful for us no more."
