Warhorse : As Heaven Turns to Ash...

The doom scene seems to have waken up, lately! Releases from Evoken, Dolorian, Cathedral are announced or already lay on the shelves of the CD stores, waiting for the doom freaks to buy and honour them.

Warhorse is a new doom-metal band signed at quality label Southern Lord. They play an ultra heavy mix of old Cathedral ('Forest of Equilibrium' era), Electric Wizard and Sleep. Vocalist Jerry Orne sounds as if he drunk a bit too much whiskey or tequila. His raw voice fits perfectly with the very heavy riffs that can be classified in the 'Sabbath tradition, but with a modern, powerful production quality. Occasionaly, the band throws in a relaxing, tranquil acoustic intermezzo before the usual heaviness returns with a vengeance.

In short, this is a debut album from a very promising band, that should be appreciated by both doom and stoner fans.
