Void of Silence : Criteria ov 666

Void of Silence is, in the absence of the mighty Esoteric, this moment's most horrifying sonic embodiment of a nightmare in the dark metal scene. Their sound is drenched in heavy-weighting reverb effects, characterized by obscure samples, monotonous, unwordly chants, tortured screams and distortion guitars lingering in the background: the harbinger of an approaching apocalypse.

The nightmare concept the band elaborates on this album, is well chosen. It gives Void of Silence the opportunity to unfold their mystic sound in a seemless endless journey through subconscious realms which most of us would rather avoid as the plague. Waves of chilling, icecold melancholy, immerse the listener in a state of negative contemplation. All plagues, disasters and hopeless defeats of this dashing humanity are summed up within 50 minutes of mind-torturing ambience.

The agonizing intensity of the music however, screams for a heavier sound. The guitars are - in the typical Italian dark metal tradition - mixed in the background and they don't weigh on the sound heavy enough for my taste. Therefore, Void of Silence doesn't show (yet) the mind-numbing heaviness of bands like Esoteric and Evoken. Nevertheless, in the absence of bands brave enough to immerse themselves in such abysmal subconscious depths, I can only embrace the point of view of these mighty Italian dark lords and welcome them in the icecold world of emptiness and doom.
