Dreaming : II

Germany's Dreaming plays a very tried, true, traditional Doom Metal in the spirit of older Pentagram, St. Vitus, The Obessed, etc. Everything about 'II' is rough around the edges, raw and is brimming with Doom Metal bravado. From the thick, heavy guitar tones to the unpolished vocal delivery, this album screams purity.

Without delving into Stoner territory, the songs on 'II' carry a classic, 1970s vibe. The moods are dark and angry and the riffing is grooving and full of intent. 'Creeping Forward' is a great example of the bands True Doom roots, calling to mind the likes of Count Raven or Reverend Bizarre with it's plodding rhythm. 'Blurred Truth' is another standout track here, with it's blusey, dragging stomp and boulder-like heaviness. Other tracks like 'Summer Of The Horse' and 'Orgies Of Sorrow' dial up the groove a couple of notches without taking away from the foreboding atmosphere.

I think anyone into a more Traditional Doom Metal style will dig this record. The description sells itself and makes it worth checking out. Fans of any of the other bands mentioned here should find something to love.
