Pombagira : The Crooked Path

Pombagira is a Sludge Doom band from London UK that knows how to make its ultra-heavy, monolithic songs quite interesting by using some original ideas. The band is good at combining slowness, crushing power and a more personal approach to Sludge Doom that allows them to get over the inevitable gigantic references of the genre like Corrupted, Grief or Sleep. There are plenty of groovy downtuned riffs, some spooky child prayer, great drumming, moody introspective moments and occasional soft piano interludes for the personal touch mentioned here above. The whole thing it filled with a massive droning vibe that make Pombagira a noteworthy outfit not dissimilar to Paganus or Tekhton.

The album is a double CD. You’d better prepare yourself for a very long (a bit too long at times, I must say) mind-numbing journey.
