Post Hamferð - Death/Doom from the Faroe Islands

Image

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to tell you about my band, Hamferð.

The band was formed late 2008 just before the Faroese rounds of Global Battle of the Bands, where we advanced to the finals.

October 2009 we went to Arvika, Sweden to record our first demo, entitled "Opið Hav" ("Open Sea").

We play Death/Doom and the lyrics are (almost) exclusively in Faroese.

January 2010 we won local music competition Sement, where we were chosen "Best new Faroese band of 2010".

This summer we will play two of the biggest Faroese music festivals, G! Festival and Summarfestivalurin, as well as record our first EP, out later in the year.

As of now there is little in the way of audio on the web, except for a preview on our Facebook and Myspace pages, as well as a recording of our performance on Sement on the link below.

The demo will receive a physical release within the next couple of weeks.

If there are any interested reviewers for magazines or webzines I would be happy to mail a copy if you PM an address :)

Thank you!

Fixed it :)

There will be more around the time when the demo is printed, as the other guitarist is in Sweden mixing the tracks.

I like it. the clean voice is maybe a bit too languid and the sound must be polished. But well yep, not bad.... I wonder if it wouldn't be better without any growls.

Hey, I'm enjoying the clip, even if the video and audio seem to be out of sync... The clean singing rocks, you can actually hear that it's Faroese in that part ;)

How's the metal scene doing over there by the way?

Thank you! It's a very small scene, but there are some things happening.

The only metal bands who have records out are SIC who play thrash/nu-metal and Týr, who play viking metal.

Týr is by far the best known Faroese metal band, with 5 records and several tours under their belt.

My old band Synarchy, who play melodic death/metalcore, have recorded their debut, but have run into complications in the mixing department and subsequently the printing/release has been delayed.

Two members of Synarchy play on Týr frontman Heri Joensen's solo-project Heljareyga which sounds alot like Týr, only faster and with more guitar solos (if possible).

And then there are a couple of demo bands like The Apocryphal Order, Collapse and us, Hamferð. It's a tight-knit scene, where everyone knows (or knows of) each other.

There is another Faroese doom project called Vhernen, and I've tried e-mailing him about concerts or collaborations, but he seems to be a very private individual and doesn't reply.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to give a quick update on what's happening with the band.
We have just returned from two successful concerts in the heart of Thorshaven, and we are pleased to announce that the demo is finally being printed, in a very limited edition of 200 copies.
It is unlikely that more will be printed before we begin working on the EP, so get one while you can!

Free copies will be mailed to reviewers and other interested individuals while supplies last, so if you PM an address, I will make sure that it gets to you.

More previews of the material will shortly be available on our Myspace.

Post Re: Hamferð - Death/Doom from the Faroe Islands

It's time to give this a small bump. I'm the other guitarist in Hamferð, and since John posted here lots of stuff has changed pretty dramatically.

We won a band competition a year ago, and since then we've had lots of shows, including the major festivals in The Faroe Islands, and we released our debut album(EP length) in December. It's called Vilst er síðsta fet. You can hear it on Spotify, you can buy it on iTunes, but I will of course recommend the physical edition of the album, which can be ordered here from anywhere in the world: http://www.tutl.com/shop/index.php?productID=529 Two of the tracks are on our myspace, http://www.myspace.com.

We've got really good reviews for both shows and album in the last couple of months, and we're going abroad for the first time this summer, so we're looking forward to exciting times for Hamferð!

The demo was never printed, and we were never really happy with it... We're going to make a pretty cool announcement on that on our facebook page tonight, http://www.facebook.com/hamferd if anyone's interested.

That's strange, the facebook link works fine here... Anyway, we're going to rerecord the old demo tracks in a month, and we're going to make them available for free online.

I even tried to look for Hamferð in the Facebook search but no results. Anyway, I sent one of you guys the Akelei demo a while back, could be 2 years ago. And you were supposed to send me the demo in return ;) Now that it never actually materialised, I will settle for the album/EP hehe. I'll pm you my address.

I found this:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=gro ... 4449263557
(The original link didn't work for me either.)
It seems they set up a 'group' rather than a 'page' at facebook, which isn't particularly useful for anyone besides band members. (Especially since it's a closed group.) Probably the original link only works if you're a group member.

you remind me a lot of Wolverine, albeit a heavier version, with harsh vocals...
