My top 10, with no particular order:

Majestic Downfall - "Temple of Guilt"
Ahab - "The Divinity of Oceans"
Swallow the Sun - "New Moon"
Wine From Tears - "From the Eyes of a Mad"
Mistress of the Dead - "I Know Her Face From the Tombstone"
Poema Arcanus - "Timeline Symmetry"
Desire - "Crowcifix" (it´s an ep but I will count it as an album)
Mournful Congregation - "The June Frost"
Process of Guilt - "Erosion"
My Dying Bride - "For Lies I Sire"

---------------------------------------------
The disappointments of the year:

Hanging Garden - "TEOTWAWKI"

I think they are both good albums... sure, Hanging Garden have changed their style a bit... it's more post-metal + screaming, but the soaring melodies are still there... Katatonia, well, for me NITND is one of the best metal albums of the year... :D

Spiritus Mortis "The God Behind The God"

The good discovery of this year for me is the band "Rituals of the Oak".

Rituals of the Oak rule. Can't wait for the vinyl release of their debut.

How's that new Bunkur compared to their debut self-titled? It was quite good a Wormphlegm wannabe album. I liked it.

I thought the band Habsyll sounded like Bunkur. Their MMVIII album is not bad at all...

Listened to it yesterday and I think it's still more or less the same. Still a lot to do to become a b-version of Black Boned Angel, though. And yes, it's not about knowledge, but about counter-knowledge :)
The conclusion though is obvious: a contract with Displeased certainly won't help Manuel pay back a few dozens of people, heh.

So much great stuff from this year but I guess my list would go something like this;

S:t Erik - From Under the Tarn
Doomraiser - Erasing the Remembrance
Griftegard - Solemn, Sacred, Severe
Argus - Argus
Spiritus Mortis - The God Behind the God
Pÿlon - Doom
Semlah - Semlah
Altar of Oblivion - Sinews of Anguish
Sinister Realm - Sinister Realm
Forsaken - After The Fall

This was my attempt at this but honestly, I'd have to do a list of around 30+ albums to get all my favorite doom related stuff in from this year. I tried to keep it all pretty trad/epic in here, but some stuff in there certainly isnt. I will make one later of my favorite Sludge releases of the year because there has been some pretty good stuff out there for sludge lately.

Edited for stoner/sludge stuff.

Old Mayor - Old Mayor (EP, but whatever?)
Monkeypriest - Defending the Tree (An EP too.)
Otesanek - Otesanek (Another EP haha.)
Mala Suerte - The Shadow Tradition
Laudanum - The Coronation
Fight Amp - Manners And Praise (Not exactly sludge, but what the hey.)
Black Cobra - Chronomega
Zoroaster - Voice of Saturn
Pyramido - Sand (Stoner, but yeah.)

Funeral Doom;
Ahab - The Divinity of Oceans
Stabat Mater - Stabat Mater
Until Death Overtakes Me - Days Without Hope
Mournful Congregation - The June Frost

For myself the top albums for the year '09 were:

Spiritus Mortis: The God Behind The God
Candlemass: Death Magic Doom
Count Raven: Mammons War
Church of Misery: Houses Of the Unholy
Wino: Punctuated Equilibrium
Griftegård: Solemn, Sacred, Severe
Shrinebuilder: s/t

Also the demo CD-R of Temples (Fin) was great. o/

Colosseum, Ahab, Mournful Congregation, Officium Triste, My Dying Bride, Doom:VS, Longing For Dawn, Until Death Overtakes Me...having trouble thinking of others I've picked up this past year. Was a pretty good year though.
