I'd like to know a little about this too.

Well, I am a newcomer to philosophy books, but I've always heard people talking about Nietzsche and I found some of his ideas to be interesting.

When I had the chance to pick one of his books to read, I've choosen Ecce Homo to know, get familiar with his style of writing, language, thoughts, ideas and so on, before moving to the principal works.And also, he is a person that always amazed me, so starting to read his auto biography is kind of natural for me.

After Ecce Homo, I am going for On the Genealogy of Morality.
What atracts me to Nietzsche works is his constant questioning of things of the human nature(like morality, in example), his rejection of those values and his very peculiar view of world.All of those things sparked my interest in his works.

I couldn't define very well my thoughts.Sadly, when it comes to more serious subjects, my english vocabulary is very lacking, but I hope I could understand my point.


And changing subjects a bit, could someone give me an opinion about Dostoyesvky, Tolstoy, Victor Hugo and Baudelaire in general?

I've recently got into s-f literature by Strugatsky brothers. Reading them one by one.

But in a week or two I'm returning too my various acoustic academic books

The fascinating thing about science fiction is that no matter how does it often aspire to re-invent the whole world/universe, it still happens to project so many of the "truths" and ideas that were surrounding the authors at that time. It was in fact last year I've read the "Stalker" collection by them again after many years, which made me think a lot about what/how they were trying to say and what were the kinds of "locutionary" dispositions (contexts) from which they have spoken. In short, it is really interesting to try to recapture the political imagery from those novels/stories. I should read more of those for a final verdict, but what fascinates me is that it didn't seem that the guys were in the end emotionally disturbed by thinking of the future even despite a kind of omnipresent suffering surrounding the things which they described...

The "Stalker" collection? I thought that Strugatsky had only written "Roadside picnic" of which the stalker-thing started (movies, much later games, other books).

And what you say is truth. I'm not a humanist so I won't describe my feelings and thoughts - their books are worth reading.

The "Stalker" book was a collected edition of slovakian translations of their novels / stories, I believe it does not exist in different language in the same composition, if you get what I mean.
Indeed, I must admit that it is a "price" for working your ass through political and cultural theory for a bunch of years, so that in different ways, you simply start to identify and see all different kinds of things around you. It's almost like at the times when I've read through Derrida's Writing and Difference - his argument that there is no such thing as logical/rational consistency then simply made me see all the irrationalities and disjunctions in spoken/written text all around me, wherever I've been and whatever I've seen. It's infectious.
