Just watch and sink into "Damnation" by Béla Tarr, and you can forget about other "depressive" movies...

What he said. I'd also have to add En Passion by Bergman and Lights in the Dusk by Aki Kaurismaki.

Been a while since i've seen some good depressive movies, these days all you see is mindless car racing and matrix stunts all over spilled the place.

I watched Mysterious Skin a few weeks ago...while it is not as depressing as some other movies I think it will hti certain people hard. It is a beautiful film with a gorgeous soundtrack by the combination of Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie. If you like deep things then I think this movie will be up your alley.

Seconded, a movie designed to make any macho tough guy cry like a little girl who just got her lollipop stolen by a mustachioed railroad baron.

Control

Movie about Ian Curtis / Joy Division. Rather bleak and not particulary happy.

Maybe "The Fountain" but I wouldn't call it depressive, more like gently melancholic. Anyway, it's an amazing film and so is it's soundtrack...

Deep movie for sure.

Also I agree that the soundtrack is amazing. Done by the Kronos Quartet and Mogwai

And I would like to mention the "Millennium" series as well, even if it's not a movie... it's so much more actually. Thought-provoking, mysterious, depressive and disturbing... in my eyes this is the absolute.

perhaps the most bleak movie I have ever seen....about a mother who locks her kids in an attic and tells other people they are dead.
I remember watching this movie as a child and it really affecting me. It stuck in my head for quite some time.

the same . cheap-ass "beauf" culture . prefer philosophy , sad movies with real story and music . especially what i can call "intelligent metal" (every kind of metal sounds good , but hatebreed doesn't sound as good and deep as a good ol' shape of despair :inlove: ) such as doom and lots of electro music (love the good ol' kraftwerk sounds , hey , really up to date ... sounds so actual if you ignore the synth sounds 80's to death ...

interesting thread , i'll check this all after my exams...

I just finished watching Sunset Blvd, for the first time (yes, i know, it took me long enough to get around to it), and i gotta say, it was rather depressing if you think about it.

I see The Mist was mentioned a few times, watched it yesterday. I have to agree the ending was depressing, almost in a funny way.
