Well the topic of the debate is in the title of the thread, so have at it.

I would say Shape of Despair - Angels of Distress

But for all those who argue that Shape of Despair is not true Funeral Doom, some close rivals in my list are:

Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens
Ahab - Call of the Wretched Sea
Evoken - Embrace the Emptiness
Longing for Dawn - One Lonely Path
Skepticism - Stormcrowfleet

My choices:
Mournful Congregation - Monad of Creation
Tyranny - Bleak Vistae
Funeral - Beyond All Sunsets demo and also Tragedies

There's a possibility that in my book it could be one of the following (But there's always swaying):
Skepticism - Farmakon or Lead And Aether
Tyranny - Tides Of Awakening
Comatose Vigil - Not A Gleam Of Hope
Wormphlegm - Tomb Of The Ancient King
Shape Of Despair - Shades Of...

I'll have to go with Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens, which is also one of the best albums ever to emerge from the barren soils of Finland.

Difficult to choose, but I'll go for Mourful Congregation-The Monad Of Creation also.

Very close behind, and all ex-aequo :

Tyranny-Bleak Vistae
Thergothon-Streams From The Heavens
Evoken-Embrace The Emptiness
Shape Of Despair-Angels Of Distress
Monolithe-Monolithe I
Skepticism-Lead And Aether
Worship-DOOOM

Which naturally raise the question : does perfection in Funeral Doom lies in the ears of the listener? :p

These are the ones I enjoy most in no particular order:

Worship - Last CD Before Doomsday
Skepticism - Aeothe Kaear
Pantheist - O Solitude
Wormphlegm - demo tape (can't be arsed writing title, sorry!)
Thergothon - both
Mistress Of The Dead - Weeping Silence Of The Dead
Until Death Overtakes Me - Prelude To Monolith

Such an unfair question...
agreed with:
Mournful Congregation - Monad of Creation,
Skepticism (in the end, it's all of their full-lenghths together with ethere & Aes EP's),
Thergothon,
Tyranny,
and would add
Moss - Cthonic Rites,
Wijlen Wij - s/t (at least one SVC project deserves to be mentioned here, IMO)

I thought Moss wasn't funeral

My list:

Skepticism: All
Thergothon: All
Shape of Despair: Shades of...
Worship: Last (insert format here) Before Doomsday
Wormphlegm: Tomb of the Ancient King
Mournful Congregation: Monad of Creation
Tyranny: Tides of Awakening
Esoteric: The Pernicious Enigma
Solicide: Der Untergang des Abendlandes

Well, I'd agree it's maybe more of a Cthulhuan doom :p
Seriously, I think they do belong in this thread in a same degree as they don't belong in.

And nice, I think Solicide is worth mentioning in here.

Farmakon, if you want to call it Funeral Doom. If not, I would choose Stormcrowfleet or Lead and Aether, depending upon the day. :p

Same here, that's pretty much the reason I created this, so that I could see who has similar tastes to mine and then get whatever albums they have but I do not.

I like your taste in music, but although it was good I don't think that DOOOM was that great. Excellent list nonetheless.
