That's where you 're reminded why they never made a career after Friends.

I'm watching the first episode of the Japanese Spiderman tv series. Unsurprisingly, they have taken some creative licence with the source material. In typical Japanese fashion he has to command a giant robot from space.

It's called "Supaidāman" in the trash vault and there are subtitles. I was looking for the series related to the lone wolf and cub movies but I'm curious if it has anything to do with spiders now. Can't be worse than Turkish Star Wars/Indiana Jones, right?

It's a good one. Of course, he has a master from a planet called "Spider". The villain is called "Monster". The weird ninjas who can not walk anywhere like normal people... ticks all the boxes.

Do you watch Japanese movies, too? If so, have you seen "Survive Style 5+". One of my favourites!

"Happiness of the Katakuris" is another weird one, but they sing a lot.
:oddity:

I remember how goofy takeshis castle was back in the day. I don't know if this has aged well.

"Omen" - remake from 2006. Providing that I could not know the original version, I'd say it's pretty good! And Mia Farrow as babysitter - briiant!

The Empty Man

A Lovecraftian film, they are not so many, so I'm pleased when one comes with a good reputation. This one does have
style and the soundtrack is outstanding - too bad the lead male actor is quite mediocre.

It's half thriller, half fantastic, quite baroque but unfortunately not really sure of itself and of his ideas. And yet, it exudes an atmosphere of fascinating mystery, and this already is taking the film above the usual run-of-the-mill production.

The prologue is very exotic, simple, linear, with gripping but opaque scenes. What you can accept over 20 minutes, reveals serious scriptwriting shortcomings over 1h40, that is to say, the time of the second film which follows this prologue.
It's hesitant, full of plotholes that mean to be shadow zones stimulating for the imagination but where I see complacency, easy options which show a lack of vision. I understand the global intention, but the structure is so frail, nothing is really strongly linked together that would make sense. In the end, It is a patchwork of ideas, graphic visions, atmospheres that is worth less than the sum of its parts. It looks like a student experimental film that is too eager to imitate Lynch, Parker, Fincher and ends up like an immature charade.

But to its credits, it does leave an impression. I won't wach it again but I recommend its viewing once.

Just finished off 'Ozark'. Pretty satisfying ending.

I need to watch The John Gacy Tapes.

Watched The Northman. What a waste of talent. Eggers' two previous films had raised my interest a lot and this new one is a total disappointment.

Recently watched a bunch of movies for the first time.

A Quiet Place II: Good sequel. Enjoyed both movies. This one kind of gave more of an origin explanation, which I appreciated.
Paranormal Activity: Having very little interest in ghosts or possessions, I skipped over this for years. Finally decided to plop down and watch it and... it wasn't too shabby. In the 'found footage' style, had some good spooks and a good build to the end.
The Meg: Loved it. Give me giant monsters/creatures in good quality and non-Sharknado-style format and i'm all about it. An over-the-top shark movie with lots of chaos.
The Deep House: Super meh. While the setting was kind of cool, the actors sucked and the movie left me with far more questions than answers and really just wasn't too exciting.
Animal: Scary creature in the woods, trapped in cabin with strangers, lots of blood and gore. It was fine. Nothing crazy good, but also wasn't a chore to watch. Good 'hanging out and drinking with friends' scary movie.
Jungle: Solid survival film that takes place in the jungle that gets rough, but is a good tense watch. The delusional moments are also great. Definitely some "Wait, why would you do that?" moments, but still a real good time.

I like both 'A Quiet Place' films. Good vibe and storytelling.

'Paranormal Activity' is, IMO, sort of a unique film...especially the original, non-Hollywood ending. Would have been a better choice to leave it as a one-off.

My recent viewings:

'This Much I Know To Be True' - this is a Nick Cave documentary highlighting his recent work with Warren Ellis. Heavy on performance more so than interviews. Very enjoyable to see in a theater.

'The Northman' - I've seen mixed reviews on it from friends of mine. I enjoyed it well enough. It was solid. But I'm in no hurry to watch it again.
