 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
I honestly consider that first album to be melodic doom. It sounds like Katatonia's second album, except with female singing. It kind of reminds me of It Will Come, I like it. Speaking of female vocals... Edellom is a Gothic/Doom/Death Metal project from Israel. Not bad, it's actually pretty dire in some sections.

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
I'm really liking the Elusive Sight album. I agree, not full on doom. Mid period Anathema to me! Beyond Light is pretty much all male vocals, though.

FLEGETHON/ cry of the ice wolves is offered for free. Highly recomended to all (to the very few) who like their doom ultra slow and totally atmospheric. https://nihilart.bandcamp.com/album/fle ... wolves-iii

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
you can't say it reinvents the wheel, neither music nor band's name stands out... but it's well done. Not as enthusiastic as you as it seems to me I've already heard those songs before... small edit to say that the Sculptor tracks here above are really nice! I'll see where I can buy this split... re-edit: ok, Of posted the link in the right thread, but forgot to give us the bandcamp link to download the album for free ... Or is it me? I've just noticed you can right-click on the bandcamp window to open it and get to the download link.... anyway here it is (again?) https://sculptor.bandcamp.com/album/dre ... land-split

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
not being competitive, but sincerely inquisitive... please do spill the beans on similar bands/songs you know. I don't think I've heard this kind of Alcest-y vocals over "proper" doom before... the band's name is indeed borderline cringe, but... they're kids.

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
it's a female vocalist, right? But if you compare them with Alcest... now I'm wondering....
To me, the singer's gender apart, it sounds like a regular female-fronted retro doom project...

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
I've heard it before a few times too... can't tell you the bands, 'cause I'm not a fan of the genre... I'm sure Bapho will come up with the goods, as usual...

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
thanks for these did not know Bezoar and Hela. the former is not to my liking, but the latter is, and indeedy similar to GW. as for GW, there's only one photo on their facebook, and the singer looks male... but of course you never know

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
The Limestone County Chain Gang, as they say it, "explores the thematic relationship between early chain gang blues music and funeral doom metal, juxtaposing the down-tempo styles to illustrate a shared anguish." That's kinda interesting, especially the second track. Would be curious to hear more: https://thelimestonecountychaingang.bandcamp.com/album/lord-im-ready

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
yeah! New and interesting... The blues repertoire is so vast and rich... and so desperate, lyrics-wise, that I'm sure there're several classics that could be revisited through the doom aesthetics.

 Re: Free Downloadable Doom Albums
In theory this is a fantastic idea - very intersting, very original and very fitting - what could be more apt for doom then the suffering of the chain gangs.
What really surprised me is this is not simply used as a gimmick to sell poorly produced music - the music is actually very, very good on both tracks.
Unfortunately for me - I find the music too good on its own and the blues chants, however brilliant an idea, are taking away from the enjoyment. Or maybe I just need to get used to it? Still - one of the most refreshing, must-hear doom I've heard in a long time=)))
