you don't like it? it has a repetitive, mechanical side that can repel - or at least get on one's nerves, but it's also part of its idiosyncrasy. There's a vision at work obviously here.

the band's least favorable effort. Pretty pretentious album name for such a lukewarm release...
He should have stayed on the more classic doom/death side of things instead of mellowing down like that. It doesn't suit the music well...

Just given it another go. It's well done. Not really my thing, but I can see the appeal...

I actually hadn't heard the previous records as I haven't really being paying attention but hearing this made me go out and get them all.
So I had absolutely no expectations coming in. Honestly, it blew me away. My album of the year so far.

Blew you away how? I didn't find anything too spectacular in this album, except for the major departure from the band's previous style, which was very effective.

Like I say, I didn't hear their other stuff so didn't have all these expectations about exactly how it should sound. I just listened to it and liked it. Why would I just want a band to keep putting out the same record anyway?

Can you describe what you hear as a massive departure, I have listened to the whole discography start to finish a load of times now and each record has been a little evolution, this seems to just carry on that. I think there are more proggy elements on this one, a bit more technicality in the playing, but I have no problem with that.

I think a lot of it comes from hearing a bit of a kindred spirit. A lot of it really strongly reminds me of some of my recent songs - the second song especially: when I first heard it, I was thinking, crap, that sounds like it could be on our upcoming record.

I appreciate that I have probably just removed any chance of you listening to our next record :rolling:

Post Re: Doomed - "Wrath Monolith"

I love your stuff, maybe because it's not trying to be something it is not. Doomed, on the other hand, have always been a doom/death band of the monolithic and cavernous type, not the most innovative but damn heavy and dark. Now they seem to have sacrificed all that on the altar of being more 'sophisticated' but it doesn't work well for them, as the tracks are not engaging enough. They are either out of their element or try to tread waters they know too little about, so instead of delivering what they know best and excel at, they have tried, and failed to be something else...

Post Re: Doomed - "Wrath Monolith"

I try it in english ;-):
Too often is interpreted too much. It's solely the flow which makes the music. Allowing the own emotions and self-opening. It is important to be able to see beyond borders! Discussion or not. It's not trying to be anyone's justice. Accordingly I have sacrificed nothing. Doomed is still Doomed. I don't need to disguise me, enter any foreign waters. Love it or hate it, of course, thats no problem! Haha, thats the way it is ... I 'm personally out when the listener hears more, sees and thinks to recognize more than the musicians themselves. Sometimes thats really interesting or funny...well, but most boring...but this is also the content of a forum, right?

So, finally, Doom(ed) is not for everyone and it will go undeterred its way. To me that feels good!

Horns up & doom onward - always open minded...\m/ \m/

to polarise people is good... the worst is when people are indifferent to the music... :D

I like very much that album, I think it's the most accessible of all your discography and that means you opened yourself to some variations, to what could be seen as a new mellowness, that I, on the other hand, see as a kind of mature acceptation to a certain measure of light, of emotions in what was, up till now, a block of rough darkness. The edges are a bit smoother, and that's alright with me.

Strange how different it is! I feel completely the opposite. To me the album is the harshest and most intense (albeit played most correct). And also concerning the content, I have never found such clear words. But well! Enough of talking ... that makes me tired! As you say, it is good that it polarized!
Purpose and meaning!

Take care guys!

PI :thumbs-up:
