I see you included the 'tracklist' anyway; absolutely pointless if you ask me, I've even mentioned the absence of a tracklist in the review. There's no tracklist on the backcover or anywhere else, either. These numbered titles are only for CD ripping purposes.

Good album, anyway.

oops, I didn't read the review carefully enough I suppose. Still, the album is divided in tracks... no?

Thanks, Merch! "Good album and a very good review" would have been an even greater compliment, though. :p :;):

Yes, the album is divided into tracks, but - as stated in the liner notes - only for listening convenience. It's conceived as a single-track album.

I've edited the review to account for the apparently unavoidable tracklisting. Otherwise it makes me look like an idiot.

Nothing to be sorry about. In fact, I tried to remove the tracklist first, but the field can't be left blank, right?

Would someone here agree with me that growls don't really add anything interesting to Kauan's music? On the contrary, I think they're a real nuisance that sounds totally artificial. And that's a lover of good growled vocals who's telling you that! That's the reason why the last two albums of Kauan left me rather disappointed.

on the contrary... without the growls the music would be too mellow and soporific... :)

more subbtle. :D I think the growls are counterproductive; they tend to flatten their delicate melodies.

I like them both with growls and without, with a slight preference over the growled ones (which I think fit the music very well). I only dislike them in their 2nd album (but I also avoid Kuu.. so).

Btw their last two albums (not counting the re-recordings in the awful Muistumia) is some of their best material!

My favourite is Aava tuulen maa; I don't like Lumikuuro, which is full of lame riffs and black-ish shrieks. Maybe I should give a closer listen to their latest. Pirut isn't really doing it for me.

If you dislike "Pirut", chances are you won't feel any differently about the last one. Personally, I find the growls totally appropriate. They always follow and support the dynamics of the music, and add another important nuance of atmosphere and emotion. That said, I don't find them totally essential, and I do love "Aava Tuulen Maa" more than any of their other releases, too. It's more timeless. I've heard they're going to change direction with their next album. Let's see what they've come up with...

Post Re: Kauan - "Pirut"

There is a very nice live video on youtube of "Pirut" and "Sorni Nai" both performed it their entirety, definitely worth checking out=)

"Aava Tuulen Maa" is definitely their masterpiece so far, and I am really really excited about their new material, the announcements they made sounded quite promising.
