There you go again, placing the full burden of the issue on the shoulders of others.

The point is that you or anyone here cannot say 'I am right.' on the things they say because they are inconsistent. And I still can because I don't have inconsistencies and when I have them I rephrase to eliminate them.

I think for me, and for many others, the concept is to a great degree context-dependent.
I'll give an example from the dutch forum. A band was looking for a keyboard player, and after a few posts by others, your reply was:
"Doom metal met een band maken en niet in je eentje is zeer betreurenswaardig." my translation: "Making doom with a band and not alone is very deplorable."
This essentially adds one thing to the discussion: The other people choose to play in a band, but you, for some reason, think that's a thing for losers. Maybe you weren't being totally serious, or maybe you were. Regardless, it adds little to the discussion, and certainly doesn't further the original goal of the topic. So, combining the condescending tone of your post with the distraction from the original post, are you really surprised people are annoyed at it?

And why did that add little to the discussion I might ask? A very long discussion rolled out of it where people were required to formulate far more powerful arguments than in the original topic or most on this forum? In fact, I dare say that over a half of the debates on this forum where people are forced to concretely analyse everything they simply assumed to be true without any thought to it. This is an off-topic discussion technically. But admit it is giving you insights you have never even thought about. As in my case.

I'm not saying necessarily I am right in all cases, since I don't believe all of those thing can be phrased as right or wrong. It's more a matter of what is most pleasant for all parties involved.

As for contributing to that one topic: the point you make is valid, but it had no place in that topic. You should have made another topic where you questioned the viability of playing in a band, rather than hijack the topic from people who apparently thought it was viable.
They weren't saying: "hey we play in a band, what do you think about playing in bands in general?" - they were asking for a keyboard player.

Your insights are welcome, but like I said, and I think that was the whole point at the very very very start of this discussion: please try and separate them from topics made for other, more mundane purposes.
Heck, I think most of your posts could be confined to the Philosophy forum, if we look at it in this way.

Oh, that's pretty fine if it concerns you that it is in that topic. I really never understood the 'You're going off topic.' idea, it matters little where the discussion is acted as far as I am concerned. I'll make a new topic from now on.

Well, it's sort of a matter of creating personal space in a topic. It helps keeping discussions orderly if you try to stick to the original topic, and open new ones if you want to branch out into something.

Hmm, I once knew a forum which had this rule:

'If you want to go offtopic, go ahead. If there is someone saying in the topic he or she finds it annoying we'll simply split. Requiring people not to go offtopic misses a lot of chances for good discussions and we think it's stupid.'

Yep, that's also possible.

Another option: Split it yourself by starting the new topic, but post in the old one saying: "hey, I just thought of this, but I don't want to take this topic offtopic, check out this new one about X".

As it's very obvious that the forum needs more moderators, what if you give frublz moderator status? He is posting daily on several sections of the forum, he is drug user, he is dutch, he hates mainstream music. What else you need for moderator status?

I did..What a pompous, arrogant little fart. Trying to make people understand that he's more "dark and alternative" than others for instance. If he was still around, I would have made minced meat out of him, haha.
