I remember when my music teacher in 12th or 13th grade performed Cage's 4'33'' on the piano in front of the class. Those were the days! He had ordered himself an official score sheet from a music shop, and at first they had sent it back because they thought it was a misprint.  There were no notes in it after all. So he had to explain to them that it's supposed to be this way. Finally, he had his score sheet and could impress us with his piano prowess.  Unfortunately, he had to cancel the performance after some two minutes because people weren't all that attentive anymore. That guy was quite a freak!

good man it seems  I had horrible music teachers... Accordion and "Kein schöner Land" ...the lessons seemed endless

Yes, he was the best one I had, we did some pretty interesting modern stuff and also film music etc. Someday a girl told him (don't remember the context), "Herr P., Sie dürfen nicht lügen!" To which he replied: "Doch, ich bin bei den Grünen, ich darf das!" (He was, in fact, a local politician of said party.) The other music teachers sucked, though.
