A new topic! This is quite something.

1. Deftones

I hardly remember either of these, but the singer of Korn is more than a bit whiny. It's a privilege to make music for a living. His voice is annoying.

2. Slayer

For the sole reason that the jazz version of reign in blood is so funny. "Hardcore jazzers in the jazz pit" :D

3. Testament

The days of Metallica are long gone. :yuck:

4. Type o Negative

I only ever owned one of their albums. Peter Steele had some cool things to say.

6. Carcass

Heartwork! They replied to a question about the lyrics that they are so over the top, no one can take them seriously anyway.

11. Death

Chuck is such an important figure. Sound of Perseverance was the last album I owned.

12. Godflesh

Streetcleaner is some really heavy stuff.

16. Cannibal Corpse

I liked the Chris Barnes era. Never warmed up to Mr. Corpsegrinder. Hammer smashed face is a classic. Barnes was a good singer. His other (current?) band Six Feet Under had one good song in "Victim of the paranoid".

17. Skepticism

Original funeral doom band. The first couple of albums are great: Stormcrowfleet, Ethere, Lead and Aether, Aes. Shame they only release something every 10 years.

1. Korn v. Deftones - pass, lol. That's like choosing between Homsar and the Poop Smith.
2. Pantera v. Slayer - Slayer, Pantera is largely responsible for the glut of the 'core' crap flooding the scene.
3. Testament v. Metallica - Pass, see #1
4. Type O Negative v. Moonspell - TON is my fav band and therefore the best Doom Metal band.
5. Katatonia v. Paradise Lost - Paradise Lost

6. Carcass v. At the Gates - Tough call, both are good, but Carcass has had more/better albums.
7. Pentagram v. Saint Vitus - Shitty stoner rock vs uninspired Black Sabbath worship? See #1
8. My Dying Bride v. Swallow the Sun - Tougher call. Both are great, though MDB is still Doom and better overall.
9. Sevendust v. Coal Chamber - Sevendust. Coal Chamber has a lot of Doom in their sound, at on their first album. Shitty live band.
10. Cradle of Filth v. Dimmu Borgir - CoF. Dimmu has become a parody of themselves.

11. Death v. Morbid Angel - Death
12. Fear Factory v. Godflesh - Godflesh
13. Emperor v. Immortal - Immortal
14. Atheist v. Cynic - Tough call, but Atheist
15. Judas Priest v. Iron Maiden - Maiden were my favorite band for so many years. Priest has always come in second to them.

16. Napalm Death v. Cannibal Corpse - Cannibal Corpse. Cool guys, brutal death metal and no political bullshit.
17. Skepticism v. Evoken - Evoken. They're just considerably heavier.
18. Slipknot v. Mudvayne - Pass
19. In Flames v. Soilwork - In Flames, but only because Soil Work has 1 good album.
20. Kreator v. Sodom - Pass
