Ozzy covered "working class hero" in that covers album he did a while back, and Lacuna have done a fair share of pop covers, including "stars" (which I love), and "enjoy the silence" (which I don't)...

I would like to see the staff of doom-metal.com cover "do they know it's christmas?" as a special charity single :D

Nice idea. Obviously, I'd just have to contribute 'presence' or something: it wouldn't be very charitable to unleash my absence of musical talent on an unsuspecting world... :p

I also would have been interested in hearing mid-era The Gathering covering The Smiths' What Difference Does it Make (think during their Mandylion and Nighttime Birds era).

Spoiler: show

nonsense. you could hold a competition for a band to record the backing track, funeral doom style bien sûr, and then sing/growl/spit a few lines each over it... greg chandler will mix it, baphomet will review it, and it will hit #1 in the finnish charts!

Awesome - that's sax and really bad guitar playing sorted already, then. This could easily be a runner in time for Christmas...though I'd hesitate to commit to which exact year at this early stage.

Ellie Goulding's track 'Your Biggest Mistake' would be great from Sonata Arctica or Nightwish :)

Post Re: Which pop songs would you like to metal-ify?

There are actually quite a few "pop" songs I'd like to metalify. Synthpop and futurepop specifically.

I think these ones would make for a great metal tracks:

Neutoricfish - Unexpected
Spoiler: show

VNV Nation - Nemesis (basically a metal song already). UPD: Switched to page 1 and saw I was mentioning this one before. Totally forgot about that...
Spoiler: show

Ruined Conflict - basically half the songs from their debut
Spoiler: show

etc.

Also I think this pop music could use some metalifying
Spoiler: show

Nevertanezra played Zombie once live back in 10 or 11. Good album.
