You can try Envy (1999). I have not seen it yet, but a friend of mine recommended this while we were talking about Requiem For A Dream.

A Bittersweet Life, great south-korean movie, with an incredibly good fight scene (not as good as the one in Old Boy though, but it's still a great one).
Gegen die Wand (Head-On in english I belive), some really nice movie about turkish immigrants in germany, a fucked up guy who has to 'marry' a girl whom he just met in a hospital...
Donnie Darko, I guess this one needs no introduction.
Amores Perros, fantastic spanish movie, three or four (not-so-happy) stories connected to eachother by a car accident... and dogs.
Killer Kid, awesome french movie. A kid gets sold, brainwashed and trained as a soldier in order to bring him to France to kill an important person. Has some very nice music too.
Taegukgi, another south-korean movie. Fans of Saving Private Ryan will love it. Two brothers are drafted by force to take part in the korean war.

Flowers In the Attic
perhaps the most bleak movie I have ever seen....about a mother who locks her kids in an attic and tells other people they are dead.

Grave of the Fireflies, by Isao Takahata
An Anime about two japanese brothers trying to survive during WW II
It's worse than tear gas (really)

'House of sand and fog' is very down.
It's about a bad situation that turns worse. And again. And again..
And it's not a bad movie.

I agree with the recommendation of "Grave of the Fireflies" and also suggest the Documentary "Darwins Nightmare" (...really kind of depressive, though it may not be what you're looking for: http://imdb.com/title/tt0424024/ )

No, but I don't find it that depressive... Still a nice movie.
I'd recommend you to watch some movies by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. I watched "Katzelmacher" and "Warum läuft Herr R. Amok?" recently and they were pretty bleak, especially the latter. I definitely have to watch some more. I don't know the English titles (if there are any, that is) and I'm too lazy to look them up right now, but I guess you might find them at Wikipedia etc...

You should REALLY give The War Zone a try, it has a very dark and gloomy aura around the entire movie.
Especially the setting, characters, etc.
Doom is a nice word to describe it, so figure, you may like it. I certainly did, one of the better movies I ever saw.

I saw 30 days of Night last night, and it had quite a depressing atmosphere surrounding the whole thing. Pretty good movie in my own opinion...
