Sure I'm pretty liberal.
All those are true, overall gun crime here is receding apart from a few hot-spots. There's still far less gun crime here than in the U.S.
Sure knife crime is on the increase but I don't think that's much to do with guns and their availability, it's a more recent un-related trend.
As for the article stating that a new law is requested that forces people who witness a gun crime to come forward, it would'nt surprise me if they did put the people that did'nt come forward in prison and let the criminals go, the way this place is going.

Some realpolitik UK style: Round up all 14-26 years old Jamaica etc boys & ship them back to Caribbian islands. UK's knife crime trend would disappear 100%. End of the story.

But of course... you can't do that?

"hot spots"

regardless of statistics, the united states and the united kingdon CANNOT be compared when looking at crime rates! you have to consider city-layouts here. aside from manhattan, most american cities are VERY spread out, and homes here are not (typically) built overlapping, touching, or with less than 8 feet seperating them. in america, crime is a whole lot easier to get away with (and it has nothing to do with police presence or guns).

as i said before, ideally guns would not exist and they would not be in the hands of criminals, law-abiding citizens, policeman, or anyone for that matter. however, guns do exist, and the simple fact that there are bad people out there with guns is enough incentive for me to own one (or many). the world is not as happy and clean as you think it is, thx. just because you haven't seen fucked up shit at the hands of evil men doesn't mean that you won't or that bad things won't happen to you (or your family, god forbid). lastly, guns are fun! there isn't a whole lot better than going shooting with some friends. you know how the saying goes: "all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to be defenseless."

Did I say the world was happy and clean? don't think I did. I've seen my share of 'fucked up shit' and it's not like bad things have never happened to me so you can't assume that they haven't. You know nothing about me or my experiences same as I know nothing about you and yours so lets not jump to conclusions about what each of us has or hasn't experienced.

well i make that assumption because most people who have seen the true evils of humanity carry weapons, because they know that the gun they have in their car could save their life or the life of one of their loved ones someday.

Yes well I don't live in a country where it is legal to carry a gun around in my car and nor would I even if it was legal. I don't need or want a gun or a knife or any other weapon, regardless of what I have or haven't seen.
And yes, bad people could still get hold of guns in this country if they really wanted them, but fuck them. I'm not prepared to waste my time fearing them. They can kiss my arse, or shoot it or whatever.
Shall we change the subject from guns? this is getting tiresome, divisive and plain old boring and yes, I realize it was me that brought the subject up in the first place.

Nun control has roots in religious persecution, mostly harming minority religions. When nuns are outlawed, where will we get our nun porn?

@ Doominion... although I found it quite funny (or fanny?), I have deleted your post. Reason? I went to a convent school and I found the photos too disturbing... :(

ok, no... it just contravenes paragraph a, point 2, of the rules...

a- No pornography or otherwise graphically offensive material.

I am going back to bulletproof... number 1: Women are suitable for politics when they are educated and fight like tigresses. On other circumstances, as if for example you pay a whore from the army to present her as a republican representative, then it would be a major error towards fundamental politics. Education people, that's all!

just because someone is a whore or in the army doesn't mean that they aren't educated. also, women who don't "fight like tigresses" are often of a much stronger intellect than women who peddle bullshit ideas.

I think carrying a gun may offer a false sense of security as well.

Ban on guns seems to prevent some forms of crime, for example school shootings. I think there hasn't been a single school massacre after they banned small hand held guns in the UK after the incident in Scotland.

a lot of people in here talking about guns - how many of you actually own one? (obviously those arguing for gun control need not reply)

Security itself probably became nothing more than a buzzword. Though it probably still keeps revealing some of the values upon which our lives are based and are not gone too existentialist.

i just have a .22 but it doesn't matter because i am in college, i obey most laws (campus gun ban), so i don't have any guns where i live. once i move out and am living off campus i hope to buy an expensive superfluous piece of machinery like a mac 11 or an AR-15.
