 Re: Beer
Rather crazy about stouts.
One I tried recently was Founders Breakfast Stout. Was a cross between an oatmeal stout and coffee stout with chocolate hints added. Decent!

 Re: Beer
Out of misplaced curiosity... Are you a girl? Asking because of your avatar and your dislike for beer.

 Re: Beer
Not round these parts, the girls all seem to drink white wine and vodka mixers. Usually in the sort of quantities that would paralyse an elephant.

 Re: Beer
Well, I'd say that most German girls actually do like beer, at least that's the impression I get. I mean, they even like football. Now I am the freak, disliking both beer and football. I'm not a girl after all. I do like coffee, though... Or let's rather say, I like the fact that it helps me wake up. But doesn't all beer consist of cow piss mostly?

 Re: Beer
not the Belgian ones! American beers are mostly water with some bubbles and yellow shades. German beers are not that bad, but a bit all the same.

 Re: Beer
Back in the day people kept telling me there was a huge difference between all those oh-so-great German beers, but I couldn't make out any difference whatsoever. This whole drinking business simply ain't for me. But we've got Hohes C in Germany, now that's commendable!

 Re: Beer
I prefer drinking Belgian beer, yes. Been in Gent a year or two ago, it was awesome. They've got separate menus just for beer, that's amazing.

 Re: Beer
I think, if I remember right, that the German breweries have to compose their beers following an antique rule that demands that only four ingredients can be involved in the fabrication of beer: water, barley, hop, yeast. it's what is called, das Reinheitsgebot, the law of purity, and it could date back to the early years of the 16th century. But those rules have been fixed much later, in the 20th century to promote the particular quality character of German beers. It is also quite a challenge for the brewers to come up with various, unique beers, only resorting to those 4 elements.
Whereas in Belgium and pretty much everywhere else, beers can contain a lot of various things, from peels of oranges (like in the white beer) up to chocolate, over cinnamon etc....

 Re: Beer
Yes. In Germany, beer with cinnamon ends up at a concentration camp. Purity first! (Sorry, I couldn't help it. )

 Re: Beer
I've been enjoying a local brand called Gæðingur. They have a lager, a stout, an IPA and a pale ale. I haven't tried the IPA, but all the others are good. Then there's another local brewery called Borg that I find interesting. Their beers are pretty good. Make sure to try something from those breweries when and if you ever visit Iceland.
Besides these breweries, I'm very interested in BrewDog. What I've tried from them, I like. I'm also fond of Samuel Adams, especially the Winter Lager, Boston Ale and Black Lager.

 Re: Beer
You did not just say this. I'm a girl, and I love beer. I could even say I like it far more than any other type of alcohol. What a great name for a brewery. Resistance is futile! Btw, i always thought you were from Finland ... No idea why.So yeah ... I like beer. ALL kinds of beer. I used to drink only lagers (well ... it's a start, right?), but when i tried Erdinger for the first time everything changed. I fell in love with the whole Weizenbier category (I now consider Erdinger to actually be the worst one from this category), then Bockbier and Kellerbeer, and then a friend of mine introduced me to Belgian beers, and later on ales, maaan it's just so hard to pick the favorite type or brand. ATM I'm deciding between these two: Torpedo by the Sierra Nevada brewery and Traquair Jacobite ale
